12 Drinking Games for Couples

Most drinking games assume a crowd. These twelve are built for two: no cups arranged on a table, no referee, nothing to buy. Some are classics with two-player rules, some are flirty by design, and one runs itself in your browser. Pour something you like, set a limit, and pick a game.

Before you start: three house rules

  • Sips, not drinks. Every penalty below means a sip. The game should last longer than the drinks.
  • Water on the table. Non-negotiable. Alternate a glass of water with every drink.
  • Swap in dares. Any penalty can become a dare instead. Our truth or dare for couples list has sixty to choose from.
  1. Spicy Trivia

Take turns answering trivia and couples questions. A wrong answer spins the punishment wheel, and 'Drink!' is one of the slices. Add your own drinking dares before you start. It runs in the browser and keeps score for you, so nobody has to be the referee.

  2. Never have I ever: two-player rules

Alternate statements. If it is true for you, drink. If it is true for both of you, you both drink and one of you tells the story. Keep it about your relationship rather than exes and the game stays fun.

  3. Guess my answer

One partner writes an answer to a question about themselves. The other guesses. Wrong guess, drink. Right guess, the writer drinks. Use our couples quiz questions if you run out of ideas.

  4. Movie rules

Pick a film you both know and agree on three rules before it starts: drink every time a character says a catchphrase, every kiss, every explosion. Add a couples rule, like drinking whenever one of you says 'I would never do that'.

  5. Flip, sip, or strip

Flip a coin and call it. Guess right and you are safe. Guess wrong and you choose: take a sip or remove an item of clothing. Simple, fast, and the stakes rise on their own.

  6. Two truths and a drink

The two-player version of two truths and a lie. Tell three statements about yourself. Your partner picks the lie. If they are wrong, they drink. If they are right, you drink and explain the truth they did not know.

  7. Higher or lower, couples edition

Use a deck of cards. Flip one, guess if the next is higher or lower. A wrong guess is a sip. A face card means your partner asks you any question and you must answer honestly.

  8. Would you rather, or drink

Ask a would-you-rather. Your partner must pick a side and give a reason, or drink. Spicy versions escalate quickly, so decide the heat before you start.

  9. Song association

Say a word. Your partner has ten seconds to sing a lyric containing it. Fail, drink. Nail it, you drink. It gets funnier with every round.

  10. The story game

Build a story one sentence at a time. Anyone who laughs, hesitates for more than five seconds, or breaks the plot drinks. Bonus rule: the story must involve the two of you.

  11. Category countdown

Pick a category, like places you have kissed or things on your bucket list. Alternate naming items. The first to repeat or freeze drinks.

  12. Dare dice

Assign six dares to the faces of a die: sip, kiss, compliment, massage, strip, or partner's choice. Roll on your turn. Change the six dares every few rounds to keep it interesting.

Which game fits your night?

If you want to laugh, go for song association or the story game. If you want to learn something, guess my answer and two truths and a drink never miss. If you want the night to heat up, flip-sip-or-strip and dare dice do the job, or let Spicy Trivia pick the heat level for you. Looking for a date night that does not revolve around drinks? Frequently asked questions

What drinking games can two people play?
Plenty of games work with just two: never have I ever with alternating statements, guess-my-answer quizzes, flip-sip-or-strip, movie rules, would-you-rather-or-drink, and trivia games with drinking penalties. Spicy Trivia is built for two and includes a 'Drink!' slice on the punishment wheel.
How do you keep a couples drinking game fun and safe?
Set a limit before you start, keep water on the table, and use small sips rather than full drinks. Rotate in non-drink penalties like dares or compliments so the game does not depend on alcohol to be fun. Stop the game if either of you is not enjoying it.
Is there a free drinking game for couples online?
Yes. Spicy Trivia is free, needs no download or sign-up, and runs on a phone or laptop. Wrong answers spin a wheel that includes drinking penalties, and you can add your own dares before the game starts.
